[UPDATE] Who will get Android Lollipop update?


Everyone is so excited to get Android 5.0 in their devices but will it happen?

Android Lollipop comes with a vast IU change (material design), performance bump up and low power consumption which an Android user can’t miss. Still only some of the manufactures have official announced about the Android L update, many are mute.

[UPDATE] Android Lollipop is now in AOSP (Android Open Source Project). Developers can download the code and start working on it.

As of now, the devices that will get update without much further delay are:

Nexus

After the elegant announced of Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, Google also confirmed that all nexus device back from nexus 4 will be getting Android 5.0 update very soon. Expected date for OTA release is on 3rd of November 2014.

Nexus 4,5,7(Wi-Fi & LTE) and Nexus 10 are confirmed with the Android 5.0 update.

[UPDATE] Google released Android Lollipop 5.0 for Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013 Wi-Fi versions) and Nexus 10. Wait for the OTA or download the factory image and flash on your devices.

[UPDATE] Google released Android Lollipop 5.0 OTA for Nexus 4.dowload factory image

OnePlus

OnePlus One, one of the most talked phone from the date it came into market. OnePlus, the manufacture was not prepared to face the huge need for it first smart phone OnePlus One. In order to control the number of device releasing in market, one should have a invitation to buy it. OnePlus have officially confirmed that the OnePlus One devices will receive Andorid L update within 3 months of the OS release.

Motorola

Days after Motorola Nexus 6 announcement, Motorola confirms that Moto X(1st and 2nd  gen), Moto G(1st and 2nd gen),Moto G with LTE, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini with receive Adroid 5.0 update very soon.

[UPDATE] Motorola puts up a official update tracking page for all their devices. Android Lollipop is on the way for all Moto X, Moto G and Moto E users. Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid mini will also receive update very soon. If you are a Motorola mobile user check here

Samsung

The smart phone giants even after a series of new smart phone announced, Samsung haven’t confirmed the Android L update yet. But a leaked preview shows Android L running on Galaxy S5. And if Galaxy S5 gets a software update so will the new Alpha series smart phones, the new Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge.

HTC

Recently we could see a decline in sales in HTC smart phone compared to other leading manufactures. But with the premier One Series and the new Nexus 9 will probably bring HTC back to track. HTC have  officially confirmed One M8 and One M7 with be updated to Android L within 90 days for OS release. A roadmap leaked also suggests that Desire Eye, One Mini 2, One Mini,One Max, One E8, One Max, Butterfly S, Butterfly 2, Desire 816 and Desire 610 will receive 5.0 update.

[UPDATE] HTC updates the Android Lollipop update timetable.

HTC One M8 and One M7 be the first HTC smartphones to get Lollipop update. The update is expected to release in late November-December 2014, along with Sense update by January-February,2015. HTC One M8(dula sim), One M7(dual sim)Desire Eye,One E8,One E8(dual sim) and Butterfly 2 is expected to receive update by January-March,2015HTC One Mini 2 and Desire 816 by March-April,2015At last One Mini,One Max and Butterfly S by March-April,2015.

[UPDATE] HTC's Google play edition devices to get Android lollipop next week.

LG

With the huge hit of LG G3 and LG G2 in market, the company is holding tight to the winning pole. While most of the competitors confirmed Android L update not only for their flagship smart phones but also for their mid range smart phones, LG keep Lips zipped about an update. But rumor are been around that both of LG G3 and LG G2 will get Android 5.0 update.

[UPDATE] LG's official German facebook page reveals the LG G3 will get update by end of the year, followed by LG G2 (timeframe not revealed). The fastest official update announced so far, even faster than HTC's 90 days.

[UPDATE] LG says G3 will receive Android 5.0 update in coming week at least in Poland. LG is pushing up updates very fast without any more delay, even crossing Google update release to other Nexus device.

Sony

Sony are back on the smart phone market with it hit Xperia Z series. Surprising all the competitors, Sony has announced that not only the flagship devices but also, all it Xperia Z devices will receive the Android L update including Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet compact, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 compact, Xperia Z, Xperia tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia ZL and Xperia ZR.

[UPDATE] Sony releases Android Lollipop source code for Xperia Z3, Z2, Z1, Z1 compact and Z3 compact, favouring AOSP. This can't be flashing into your devices, this source code are uploaded so as developers can develop custom ROM for Sony devices.  

Asus

Asus recently announced Android Lollipop update plans through its official ZenTalk forum. Asus ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5, ZenFone 6 and PadFone S will receive lollipop update by April 2015. As well as the new PadFone  Infinity will get its update by June 2015.


As the competitors race each other to catch up the market, we customers are most benefited. As the competition gets tighter, more devices will receive Android L update.

The tech giant Microsoft is ready to unveil a Smart watch within few weeks. Microsoft is falling smartphone market with just 3.5% share and Android dominating with 80.2% along Apple with 14.8% share in the Global smartphone market by the end of 2014. Microsoft decided to catch the market with a new line a wearable device, Smart watch.  This isn’t the first time we hear about a wearable device from Microsoft, two years ago Microsoft got granted a patent for a wearable EMG device which can detect muscle movement in the wearer’s arms to control his smartphone. In the year 2012 Microsoft was rumored on working with a wearable device with work with Kinect and later march, 2014 Microsoft spend about $150 million on a patent related to headset and a watch like device from the Osterhout Design Group. Mangalyaan : Indian Mission to Mars
