The tech giant Microsoft is ready to unveil a Smart watch within few weeks.
Microsoft is falling smartphone market with just 3.5% share and
Android dominating with 80.2% along Apple with 14.8% share in the Global
smartphone market by the end of 2014. Microsoft decided to catch the market with
a new line a wearable device, Smart watch.
This isn’t the first time we hear
about a wearable device from Microsoft, two years ago Microsoft got granted a patent
for a wearable EMG device which can detect muscle movement in the wearer’s arms
to control his smartphone. In the year 2012 Microsoft was rumored on working
with a wearable device with work with Kinect and later march, 2014 Microsoft
spend about $150 million on a patent related to headset and a watch like device
from the Osterhout Design Group.
The expected Microsoft smart watch is focus on fitness than
anything which makes the device special. The watch will be sensor rich
including a passive heart rate monitoring sensor, which it take up very less
power for working. Most of the Smartphone have heart rate sensors but they don’t
work round the clock for ever until it’s initiated manually. Even the Microsoft
smart watch have to work longer than others; still it can power the watch for
2 days with a single charge.
Microsoft has put lot of Optical engineers, designers and
data scientist from Microsoft Kinect division to work on a software platform that
goes with the smartwatch and work efficiently with the device sensors to harvest
more accurate data but still it will have a color touch screen like Samsung
Gear Fit.
Unlike Moto 360 or Sony Smartwatch 3 or LG G watch R, the device is said to be more like to fitness band like FitBit
or Jawbone UP which are built to track daily activities and sync with your
smartphone.
Microsoft’s recent patent describes a smartwatch
CEO Satya Nadella kept forward a brave initiative for making
Microsoft available for all available platforms with the introduction of
Microsoft Office suite to iPad for the first time. The new watch is also
expected to reflex this attitude by working with not only Windows but also with
any other platform like Android and iSO. This makes sense, a Microsoft brand
device working with other platforms will be a significant selling point.
Reportedly, AT&T and Verizon made $1 million with the
sales of wearable like Fitbit and Jawbone. With cross platform support retails
will be so much interested in this device. The carriers can sells this device
on contract with any of the smartphones and make a steady money flow.
Doctors tell the continuous accurate heart rate tracking
capabilities can form a new type of data which can be seriously analyzed by a
professional data analyst to get more information about your health and
fitness.
We expect a game changing device for all other competitors
and showcase the return of Microsoft with its first wearable device.
[UPDATE] Microsoft device will be a fitness tracking device. The will be called as "Microsoft Band". App for the device is now available in Play Store mentioning the device is compatible with android smartphones.
