Google in collaboration with Asus brings an incredible device
the first device running the recently announced Android smart TV platform based
on Android L, the Nexus Player. The tech
Giant Google step into vast area of interest including TV, Watch, Gaming, Car
interfaces and lot more from a base of a smart phone platform Android.
On October 16th, 2014 Google announced its first Android
TV based device called Nexus player along with Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. Nexus player
allow you to stream data directly from the web or from any of your android
device/chrom device.
Google have priced Nexus player petty low at $99 which make
it a ideal opponents for other competitors like Roke 3, Apple TC and Amazon
Fire TV.
Design
Nexus player is design to fill in with your other home entertainment
system. It’s like a sleek thick circular disk that will perfectly match with
your TV.
Connection
Unlike other TV set top box with an analog video or optical
digital audio output or any other popular connectors, Nexus player is connected
to your TV with just a single HDMI cable. And even Google didn’t give an option
to connect an Ethernet cable to it, instead a latest wireless technology 802.11
ac 2x2(MIMO) to connect to internet. Google have cut off all the trouble making
mesh of cables from this beautiful device.
Remote
Nexus player also come with a Remote with voice search capability.
Google kept even the remote design very clean and simple with fewer buttons. To
enable easy voice search Google has given a dedicated voice search button along
with a microphone.
Communication between Nexus player and remote is through
Bluetooth 4.1 similar to Amazon Fire TV.
Chip
Nexus player contain a 1.8GHz Quad Core Intel Atom Chipset to
power your TV and change it forever. Asus has also employed an Imagination PowerVR
Series 6 Graphics to enhance graphics performance.
Controller
Alike Amazon Fire TV, Nexus player also has an optimized gaming
controller available price at $40 but sold separately.
Apps
As of today only few apps are available for Android TV like
Netflix, YouTube, Huluplus, Vevo, TED, Pandora, Daily motion, Google Movies
& TV, PlutoTV etc. Still most popular apps like HBO Go, Amazon Instant and
Spotify is not yet make it.
Mirroring
Nexus player support the Google’s Cast technology, enable
you to cast anything from your smart phone or table to the big screen. It also holds
up Screen Mirroring from Chome browser or Chomebook allowing viewing more videos
in your TV over Android TV.
Google have delivered a magnificent device with the Android
TV version 1.0, expecting more update later this year.
